Beauty in 2025: Maximalism Takes Over

Beauty in 2025 is all about making a statement. It’s time to feel as confident as Taylor Swift in a red lip and as bold as Lady Gaga in bright eyeshadow. The era of barely-there makeup is taking a backseat as bold, maximalist looks take over.

Ever since Chappell Roan rose to stardom last summer, I’ve noticed a rise in daring beauty choices like colorful mascara, metallic eyeshadows, and moody, red-lined lips. While Google trends showed us that the “clean girl” aesthetic, ballet core, pink blush, and slicked-back ponytails were all the rage in 2024, this year I’m really embracing the drama not only in my own daily beauty looks but also on my clients. For example, I loved switching up Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian’s typical neutral glam with a bold red lip during the holidays.

I think we’ll continue to see a lot of experimental nail looks as well. Celebrities like Cynthia Erivo and Hailey Bieber have definitely caught my eye—they’re making nails an essential part of their beauty routine with 3D textures, chrome finishes, and long acrylics.
One of my favorite ways to bring drama into a look right now is by popping on a dark cherry lacquered lip. As temps heat up, we’re moving away from mattes and satins and embracing high-shine finishes.

The key to this look is a bold, rich color paired with an ultra-glossy top coat. I also love to make a look feel bolder by embracing the smudge. We’re really starting to see people get messy with it—precision is out and effortless, lived-in glam is in. I usually take a creamy black or brown liner and smudge it across the upper or lower lash line (depending on your mood) to get that “indie sleaze” effect. It’s so ‘90s Kate Moss—and I’m obsessed.

I think blush is always going to be that girl, but this year is going to be about placing it high on the cheeks to add extra definition and drama to a look. I love using coral, red, and pink shades across the nose and the high points of the cheeks, all the way into the temples, to give that “I just got back from vacay” effect that’s carrying over from 2024. Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are both great blush muses for this.

I’m excited to lean more into this moody makeup trend for the rest of 2025 and see how everyone else brings the drama this year as well. Here’s to feeling confident in a “nighttime” look in the middle of the day!
