P&G has launched Gemz, a first-of-its-kind haircare brand that uses single-dose packaging instead of traditional bottles. The water-activated formulas are packaged as dissolvable “gems.”

It took the team at P&G 14 years of dedicated research and development to develop this novel approach to haircare.

Unlike traditional bars, Gemz are single-dose, dissolvable tiles made without water, fillers, or waxes, which can cause buildup on the hair. Each hexagon-shaped “Gem” tile delivers a concentrated clean that leaves hair feeling light, smooth, and residue-free.

Lorena Ferreyros, Senior Brand Director of Hair Care North America at P&G, said,

“People are loving the Gemz experience because it’s fun and flexible—consumers can mix and match different shampoos and conditioners based on their hair’s changing needs, without sacrificing performance. In fact, Gemz delivers exceptional cleaning benefits while helping reduce excess buildup.”

Many early users reported they could go an extra day between washes after switching to Gemz. This reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation, flexibility, and high-performance hair care—designed for consumers with fast-moving routines and evolving needs.

John Scarchilli, Director of Hair Care, Scientific Communications at P&G, added,

“Gemz is a science-enabled response to modern consumer needs. Each Gem is made of intricately spun threads—creating a porous, high-surface-area matrix that dissolves and lathers rapidly when water is added in the shower.”

Gemz launched at Target with five shampoos and five conditioners that can be mixed and matched to adapt to consumers’ changing needs.

Each Gem features an in-shower easy grip, a built-in hook for easy storage, and a compact, TSA-approved format ideal for travel.
