Credo Beauty Launches Credo Qualified

Allure Beauty Concepts joins as the first beauty partner.

Credo Beauty, a pioneer in the clean beauty space, announces Credo Qualified, a Credo Beauty-managed service market for businesses in the beauty supply chain who meet the Credo Qualified and The Credo Clean Standard requirements.

Credo kicks off this new venture by partnering with Allure Beauty Concepts, with plans to scale annually to reach a sizable, yet trusted group of companies to sit under the program.

Christina Ross, Head of Science and Impact at Credo Beauty, commented,

“I’m thrilled that Credo Qualified supports brands and our industry by creating a clear and credible way to identify manufacturing and supply chain partners who meet highest standards for safety, sustainability, and transparency. By recognizing manufacturers, labs, and suppliers who are doing things the right way, we’re shining a light on the behind-the-scenes work that makes genuine industry progress possible.”

The Credo Clean Standard is a highly vetted manifest, which currently resides over 50 pages long. This helps to provide clarity in a beauty industry that often lacks it, with strict expectations for safety, transparency, and sustainability.

This includes:

  • Restricted Substances: The Dirty List: it includes over 2,700 chemicals that are prohibited or restricted, usually due to safety and/or sustainability concerns.
  • Testing: Credo requires and guides brands through a variety of raw material and final product testing of contaminants, heavy metals, preservative efficacy, irritation potential, and more.
  • Labeling & Claims: Credo requires all brands to use a consistent naming convention for cosmetic ingredients called “INCI”. INCI stands for the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients.
  • Fragrance Transparency: brand partners are required to categorize the source of their fragrances and are celebrated when they fully disclose all fragrance ingredients in a product.
  • Sustainable Packaging Guidelines: Credo’s approach to sustainable packaging is three-fold: smart design, sustainably sourced, and optimized for end-of-life.

Additionally, part of the Credo Qualified approval process is also focused on supplying chain decarbonization efforts by Credo Qualified businesses, which will help Credo Beauty and brands in lowering Scope 3 emissions and push sustainability in beauty further.

In response, Credo created Credo Qualified, which will help to assure current brands and potential new ones (for Credo Beauty or other retailers) that the legwork has been properly done and their ingredients, raw materials, supply space, packaging, and more, meet Credo Clean.

Credo Qualified helps build trust, differentiation, and a clear way to be Credo Beauty aligned.

For Credo Beauty and its brands, it helps to speed up brand development timelines, reduces early formulation stage risks, supports The Clean Standard across the supply chain, and expands leadership in clean beauty.
