Time unveiled its annual Best Inventions list, and the BoldHue Starter Kit has officially been recognized globally as one of the Best Inventions of 2025, proving it’s not just buzzworthy, it’s a breakthrough.

BoldHue is the first-of-its-kind at-home smart device that scans your skin and generates your perfect foundation shade in under a minute. No guesswork, no settling—just personalized, pro-grade results.

Co-founded by Rachel Wilson, CEO & serial entrepreneur, and Karin Layton, CTO, ex-aerospace engineer, and artist, BoldHue blends Wilson’s extensive experience in sales and product marketing, with Layton’s expertise in color theory and engineering.

Recognizing the universal challenge of foundation shade matching, Wilson and Layton joined forces to create a groundbreaking solution that’s five years in the making. They invented a device that formulates personalized foundation on demand, earning the nickname “the Keurig for makeup.”

Thoughtfully designed to fit seamlessly on your vanity with its sleek and soft edges, BoldHue is a first-of-its-kind approachable smart device for everyone.

Sir John, legendary makeup artist and BoldHue’s Artistic Director, praises the device’s commitment to inclusivity, calling it a “game-changer in beauty tech.” The sleek device, about the size of a Stanley water bottle, is designed to sit beautifully on your vanity and solve all your foundation woes.

BoldHue also partnered with Beautyblender — the iconic beauty tool brand — to codesign the BoldHue custom mixing spatula.

The device is backed by Mark Cuban and some of beauty’s biggest voices, including Manny Gutierrez, James Charles, Tati Westbrook, and more.
