WGSN and Coloro announced the 2027 Color of the Year today—Luminous Blue. Here’s more about the ‘mysterious’ and ‘eccentric’ hue.

Bright, confident, inspired, approachable, easy to wear, and vivid are some of Luminous Blue’s characteristics, according to WGSN. Its team led an in-depth discussion today about the new color of the year.

“I am so in love with this color,” said Reiko Morrison, head of CMF, Consumer Tech, at WGSN, as she announced Luminous Blue as the 2027 Color of the Year. Viewers heard the news during a webinar, which is on LinkedIn.

Nick Paget, senior menswear strategist at WGSN, added, “It’s such a strong choice…it’s brilliant.”

The statement-making Luminous Blue is very different from Transformative Teal, WGSN’s 2026 Color of the Year. “It’s a refreshing change from the recent trend of aqua-based blues, like Transformative Teal,” Morrison noted.

The 5 Key Colors for 2027

WGSN’s color forecasts always include a complete palette of complimentary colors. Luminous Blue may be the “star” for 2027, but the complete color palette is shown below.

Here are the five key colors for 2027:

  • Luminous Blue
  • Energy Orange
  • Pop Pink
  • Meadowland Green
  • Clay

The colors are shown in the image below, in the order as listed.

More About Luminous Blue’s Appeal—& Cultural Relevance

How is the 2027 color of the year linked to cultural trends? “Interconnectedness will be a defining trend going into 2027,” Morrison explained. “Luminous Blue embodies looking back while also looking forward, balancing humanity’s wisdom with the speed and precision of tech and innovation,” she said.

While discussing the color’s applications in Tech, Morrison said, “The luminous quality of this blue aligns so well with creativity and innovation.”

In fashion, Luminous Blue is modern, timeless, and a ‘sporty’ color, Paget said. On the runways, colors similar to the bold blue hue are trending. WGSN’s data shows that bright blues are outperforming other bright colors in both menswear and womenswear.

Morrison spoke about Milan Design Week, where, she said, “Luminous Blue was all over the place.” She mentioned Google’s “Making the Invisible Visible” and Kia’s “Opposites United” exhibits. “Both exhibits were beautiful ethereal interpretations of this hue, but in different and creative ways,” Morrison explained.

During the webinar, we got a glimpse at the forecasting process—and a look at WGSN’s Spring/Summer 2027 Global Color Workshop in collaboration with Coloro.

The team pulls qualitative and quantitative research to determine the emerging trends in various industries, including beauty, fashion, consumer tech, interiors and more.

Once colors are selected, color feasibility is tested across various substrates. WGSN’s team uses looks Coloro’s toolbox, which contains over 3,500 color swatches, to forecast the upcoming on-trend hues.

How Will Brands Use Luminous Blue?

Morrison described several ways a brand can customize Luminous Blue. Using the color with different finishes can transform its look. She suggested that a matte finish might look upscale and luxe.

Paget said he’d love to see Luminous Blue as an elevated, futuristic, sparkling metallic—and spoke about how the color would work well for a multitude of products.

Where will we see Luminous Blue in beauty?

We expect to see all shades of blue for hair, nails, and makeup. To us, the bright hue looks inspired by the deepest depths of the Mediterranean sea.
