Founded in 2017 in China, Florasis is a luxe global beauty brand that aims to balance art, nature, and science by infusing floral and herbal extracts from traditional Chinese medicine recipes into their formulations. The brand is known for packaging these high-quality, botanical-infused makeup products into unique, ornate palettes and sticks that often feature floral motifs. Decoration and packaging inspiration come from the beautiful scenery and rich cultural heritage of Hangzhou, China, particularly the West Lake area.

The collection includes face primers, foundations, blushes, highlighters, eye shadow palettes, skincare, and lipsticks.

Innovative products created by local artisans honor ancient craftsmanship. For instance, Florasys’s Nomadic Glam Collection, inspired by the nomadic spirit of the Mongolian culture, (China’s ethnic minority), features the intricate, traditional Ulzii pattern symbolizing knowledge, wealth, happiness, and good karma; the packaging merges fine leather material with sophisticated prints for a luxe look.

Leading the Way to Expansion

In 2024, Florasys named Gabby Chen as President of Global Expansion. She brings more than 18 years of experience in marketing, having previously worked as Head of Beauty for Lane Crawford Group and KENDALL+KYLIE fashion line, bringing the brand into to the Asian market. Chen is leading Florasis’ international growth strategies, focusing on leveraging consumer insights and strategic planning to establish the brand as a leading name in the global beauty market, including developing a retail presence in Europe and the Middle East and opening a flagship store in Japan. The brand also launched a US TikTok shop to enhance consumer engagement in North America.

Reaching Out

I recently reached out to Chen for her thoughts on current and future trends in Color Cosmetics Packaging.

Chen said, “The color cosmetics packaging industry is experiencing a significant shift towards sustainability and inclusivity. Brands are increasingly adopting eco-friendly materials and designs that resonate with a diverse consumer base. There’s a focus on translating influential beauty movements into innovative cosmetic formulas that inspire.”

In addition, Chen points out that “… 2025’s beauty themes will equip brands to compete in a dynamic marketplace, emphasizing the importance of emerging technologies and manufacturing trends.” She says that Florasis integrates intricate, culturally inspired designs with sustainable practices, such as using recyclable materials and ocean-bound plastic. “Our focus is on creating packaging that is not only beautiful but also meaningful and responsible,” says Chen.

What product/package most speaks to Florasys’s dedication to artistry and innovation?

Chen replies, “Our Floral Engraving Phoenix Makeup Palette exemplifies our dedication to artistry and innovation. Inspired by the legendary tale “All Birds Pay Homage to the Phoenix,” this palette features nine versatile, richly pigmented shades suitable for eyeshadow, blush, contour, and highlighter, catering to users of all skill levels.

The intricate, three-dimensional phoenix engraving celebrates cultural heritage and timeless elegance, according to Chen. She says, “The talc-free and cruelty-free formula provides a smooth, buildable finish, delivering vibrant, long-lasting color.” The design of the palette draws inspiration from the concept of 屏风 (píngfēng) in Feng Shui, which are traditional folding screens used to create harmonious spaces, symbolizing balance and protection.

Looking Ahead to 2025-26

Chen said that the brand believes the future of Color Cosmetics will revolve around personalization, multifunctionality, and eco-friendly innovation. “Consumers will increasingly seek packaging that feels bespoke and luxurious while aligning with their values of sustainability and minimal environmental impact,” she notes.

At Florasis, says Chen, “We are exploring new materials and technologies to align with these evolving preferences, ensuring our products meet the demands of modern consumers.”

Additionally, Florasis is pioneering the concept of “skincare makeup” by formulating our products with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) ingredients and skin-benefiting floral essences. “Our formulations are infused with peony seed oil, ginseng, marigold, and pearl powder, which nourish the skin without causing irritation or dryness. This approach allows us to create makeup that not only enhances beauty, but also supports skin health, aligning with the growing consumer demand for products that bridge the gap between skincare and cosmetics.”
