Sustainable Innovation in Primary Packaging: Viva’s Commitment to a Greener Future

In today’s beauty and personal care industry, sustainability is no longer just a trend—it’s an expectation.

At Viva Healthcare Packaging, we recognize the importance of responsible packaging and have developed a multi-faceted approach to enhance recycling-readiness, reduce waste, and incorporate recycled materials without compromising quality or aesthetics.

Mono-Material Structure

Mono-material packaging simplifies recycling, making it easier for consumers and facilities to process used products effectively. Viva’s solutions include:

Recycle-ready tubes: Unique polypropylene (PP) tubes designed for recycling per the APR Design Guide for Tube Recyclability. The tube, applicator, closure, and in-mold label are all made from PP.
Recyclable sticks: Barrel, cap, internal components, and in-mold labels are made entirely in PP.

High PCR Content

Viva offers options in post-consumer recycled (PCR) content to support the circular plastic economy and  further reduce virgin plastic use:

• Tubes: 35%, 45% soft PP, 70% and 87% PCR in the sleeve and up to 100% in oval tube shoulders, closures and applicators.
• Sticks: Up to 100% PP-PCR in the barrel, cap, and internal components.
• Jars: Up to 100% rPET in the jar and 100% PP-PCR in the lid.

Lightweight Options

Viva has developed lighter weight tubes and lower profile caps to help reduce material consumption and provide a softer squeeze.

Refill and Reuse Systems

Our refillable packaging solutions for jars and sticks save 50-80% of plastic with each refill used. These formats not only cut down on plastic waste but can also be produced using PCR materials, further enhancing sustainability.

Environmental and Social Governance

At Viva, sustainability extends beyond products—it’s about making a meaningful impact across the entire supply chain. Our commitments include:

• Local production for local markets: Manufacturing in North America for North American markets to reduce transportation emissions and strengthen regional supply chains.
• Renewable energy usage: Approximately 25% of our energy comes from renewable sources.
• On-site recycling: Diverting an average of 1,300 tonnes of plastic waste from landfills each year through internal regrind operations in our tube production.

Award-Winning Decoration

Sustainable packaging doesn’t mean compromising on branding or aesthetics. Viva offers premium decoration options to enhance visual appeal in tandem with sustainable options:

• In-mold Label (IML) decoration for tubes and sticks, providing seamless, high-definition graphics and finishes such as soft touch and metallics, beyond the borders of typical dielines.
• Heat Transfer labels for jars
• Pressure-Sensitive Labels for sticks and other applications
• Water-transfer decoration for closures
• Vacuum metallization and spraying
