Chanel has closed its New York City beauty concept store in response to market slowdowns.

Atelier Beauté was in SoHo and opened in 2019. The store acted as a customer experience, focusing on product try-ons.

This closure comes shortly after Chanel announced job cuts in the U.S. to “protect the business.”

In a statement, Chanel commented,

“Since opening its doors in 2019, the Atelier Beauté Chanel has provided an innovative, digitally enhanced environment aimed at elevating our clients’ experiences. We have recently decided to integrate the innovation practice in the existing operational model.”

This follows an industry trend as other brands and retailers double down on brick-and-mortar expansions in the U.S., as Hourglass recently unveiled a new flagship store and Dior opened its first standalone store, both in New York.
